Founding AI Engineer

EngineeringCanadaRemoteFull-time

Most AI roles ask you to improve a model. This one asks you to help build a company.

About Chorus AI

Chorus AI is building an AI-native investment research platform.

We believe the gap between institutional and retail investors is no longer just about access to information. It is about access to structured workflows, tools, and decision support. Institutional desks have specialized analysts, research systems, and established processes. Most retail investors do not.

Our goal is to use AI to narrow that gap and make high-quality, structured research more accessible.

We are an early-stage team building fast, learning fast, and shipping real product. At Chorus AI, AI is not a feature added on top. It sits at the core of the product.

About the role

We are hiring a Founding AI Engineer to help build Chorus AI from the ground up.

This is not a narrow modeling role, and it is not a role for someone who only wants to optimize prompts in isolation. You will work across the full lifecycle of AI product development: shaping ideas, designing systems, building core intelligence workflows, integrating models into product experiences, and iterating based on real user feedback.

You will help define not only how we build, but also what we build.

This role is for someone who enjoys ambiguity, thinks in systems, moves quickly, and wants real ownership in building an AI-native product from 0 to 1.

What you'll do

  • Design and build the core AI systems that power Chorus AI
  • Develop AI-native product workflows, not just standalone demos or model experiments
  • Work across LLM prompting, orchestration, backend systems, data flows, and product integration
  • Build reliable pipelines for research, analysis, summarization, and decision support
  • Prototype quickly, evaluate what works, and turn promising ideas into production-ready systems
  • Collaborate on product shaping, user workflows, and feature direction
  • Make strong technical tradeoff decisions in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Help define the technical foundation, engineering standards, and product architecture of the company
  • Work closely with founders and contribute to both technical strategy and product execution

What we're looking for

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to ship production-quality code
  • Experience building AI products, LLM applications, agentic systems, or intelligent workflows
  • Strong product sense and the ability to connect user problems to technical decisions
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and making decisions with incomplete information
  • Ability to move between rapid prototyping and production hardening
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with modern AI tooling
  • Experience with APIs, backend systems, and real-world product integration
  • A builder mindset: high ownership, curiosity, speed, and strong execution
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment

Nice to have

  • Experience with fintech, market data, or investment research products
  • Experience with multi-agent systems, orchestration frameworks, or structured output pipelines
  • Experience with full-stack product development
  • Startup experience or experience building products from 0 to 1
  • Familiarity with modern web stacks, cloud deployment, and product analytics

What success looks like

In this role, success means you are not only building strong technical systems, but also helping turn ambiguous product ideas into things users can actually use.

You will have real impact on:

  • The intelligence layer of the product
  • The speed and quality of experimentation
  • The reliability of AI workflows in production
  • The technical direction of the company
  • How quickly Chorus AI turns ideas into product

Why this role is different

Most AI roles ask you to improve a model.

This one asks you to help build a company.

You will be joining early enough to influence architecture, workflows, product direction, and engineering culture. This is a role for someone who wants more than implementation work. It is for someone who wants ownership, scope, and the chance to help shape what the company becomes.

If you are excited by speed, ambiguity, and building AI systems that people actually use, we would love to talk.

How to apply

Send us your resume, LinkedIn, GitHub, personal site, or anything else that shows how you think and what you have built.

In the age of AI, polished words are easy to generate. What stands out is real work.

We care much more about how you build than how you describe yourself.
